- May be a simple subject but important to go over with RVs as there are normally two lock on trailer doors, the dead bolt and the door lock. These both have the same key and generally you only ever lock the door because if you lose your keys and the deadbolt is locked, your local dealer or RV technician will not be able to get you into your trailer with their master key. The deadbolt is best used when you are inside the trailer and want to feel safe while you sleep but ultimately that is just a recommendation.
